Action and Reaction are Opposite to Each Other but They do Not Cancel Each Other – Why?

Action and Reaction are Opposite to Each Other but They do Not Cancel Each Other – Why? This topic is based on Newton’s third law of motion which tells us that every action has an equal and opposite reaction but they still don’t cancel each other due to a very specific reason.
Newton’s Third Law Explanation
Newton’s Third Law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. But these forces do not act on the same body. Therefore, they never cancel each other.
Why Do Action and Reaction Not Cancel?
- Action force acts on one body
- Reaction force acts on a different body
- Forces acting on different bodies cannot cancel each other
Examples of Action and Reaction
- A rocket pushes gases downward (action), gases push rocket upward (reaction)
- You walk pushing ground backward (action), ground pushes you forward (reaction)
- Gun firing pushes bullet forward (action), gun recoils backward (reaction)
Note: Action and reaction are always equal, opposite and simultaneous but act on different bodies.
